Bob's Birthday Bash, a celebration of Munger Moss Motel co-owner Bob Lehman's recent 81st birthday, turned into Bob's Birthday Splash on Saturday evening thanks to a light rain and temperatures that dropped into the upper 40s.
But the couple dozen family members, friends from as far away as Illinois and Route 66 enthusiasts who huddled beneath the awning outside the motel's Room "66" still enjoyed chocolate birthday cake and a concert by Jess McEntire and the Tennessee-based US 66 Band.
Because of the rain, the band rearranged its equipment on the Munger Moss patio to face the rooms of the west wing. Several in the audience, sitting outside the rooms, stayed warm under blankets, including the guest of honor.
Bob Lehman turned 81 on Wednesday. He and wife Ramona have owned and operated the Munger Moss, a Route 66 landmark, for 47 years.
