Route 66 Gasconade River Bridge

The Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society board Tuesday pledged $1,000 toward stabilizing the Route 66 Gasconade River Bridge at Hazelgreen, assuming the Route 66 Association of Missouri obtains ownership of the century-old bridge from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).

MoDOT currently is reviewing a 69-page amended proposal from the Route 66 Association of Missouri, submitted Feb. 1, for the transfer of ownership. Rich Dinkela, association president, is optimistic that the proposal will be approved. However, the association then would have 18 months to stabilize the bridge or ownership would transfer back to MoDOT.

Dinkela has said the association needs to raise at least $500,000 to stabilize the bridge. He personally has pledged $5,000.

The Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society previously gave $1,000 toward an engineering study of the bridge in December 2018.

Donations from other groups and individuals are encouraged. Donations and pledges may be made at https://www.missouri66.org/Gasconade-Bridge.
